Charities & Tributes

Michael was very supportive of certain charities. He could never pass up a cause for children and he was very much behind Greenpeace and Amnesty International. In fact he bequeathed a substantial amount of money to both Greenpeace and Amnesty however his executors neglected to honor his wishes.

However, many, many remarkable fans have contributed to the ongoing memory of Michael and many people have supported his causes through charity auctions. We feel so blessed that we can honor Michael by donating and sharing the few belongings we were left with, to raise money for charity in his name. In our hearts we know that is what he would want us to do.

Amnesty International wrote:

"I am writing on behalf of Amnesty International Australia to thank you for your support of our organization, and your efforts to assist with the bequest of your son and brother, Mr Michael Hutchence. I am sure that the last few years have been difficult for you, your family and loved ones. We all appreciate your assistance to our organization in this time of loss." -Kathy Kingston, National President 2001.

Mums on a Mission wrote:

"On behalf of Mums on a Mission and The Children's Hospital at Westmead we would like to thank you for your support of the Valentines Day Ball. The evening was a great success with over 500 guests attending. Your generous donation contributed to raising an overwhelming amount of over $72,000. Once again thank you for your generous support." - Patricia donated Michael's platinum record for "Shabooh Shoobah". 2001.

Wayside Chapel wrote

"Thank you once again for thinking of us and for your best wishes" Alfrida Edwards

In 2001 we donated two items to the Wayside Chapel for a celebrity auction; a shirt (pictured) belonging to Michael which he wore in the movie 'Frankenstein Unbound' and a pair of his favorite shoes.

The shirt was purchased by Keisha Jackson and when she asked if she could have a print of him wearing it that she had seen, Tina sent one from her own collection. She tells us that she has framed the picture with the shirt. The shoes were sold on Ebay to make money for the Wayside Chapel - a very worthy cause.

Patricia donated Michael's bongo drums from Hong Kong and two signed books to a cause to fight cancer to a small community in northern Queensland in 2000, raising $7500. for their cause.

Chris and Cathy van der Woerd of San Diego, USA. Supported the TreePeople's efforts to create a cleaner environment by purchasing a 'gift of hope' -a grove of five trees in honor of Michael's name in the Malibu forest. These trees will bring joy and beauty for years to come.

Lisa Read and her two friends, Wanda and Robin, purchased a 'star' in memory of Michael. It comes with a STAR DEED, chart and is officially known as 239725 Crux, very fittingly situated in the "Southern Cross".

Lisa also supports a tribute site for Michael at  http://hutchgilly.com
